I can see where you’re coming from but you seem to think that no one’s paying attention to anything else in the world. They are. But this isn’t just about the fact that these people killed themselves, it’s the reason they did it, it’s not just happened to those 6 kids, it’s happening to thousands of kids around the world, and it’s much easier to stop than world hunger or a natural disaster.
Surely turning Tumblr brown and having a donate link to a charity like Aid For Africa for a week will have more of an impact. I highly doubt many people will stop bullying gays people because Tumblr is purple. It might raise awareness, but raising awareness does fuck all if it’s not followed up by action or aid. Tumblr should at least link to charities, that you could donate to, who provide counselling for those suffering because of their sexuality…
Hate to be involved in a tumblr reblog debate, but incase you don’t remember, they made the website back for a week because of the oil spill on the Gulf Coast. It’s Purple Day today, it’s not just tumblr doing this today, a small gesture to raise awareness of a cause, people are already very aware of global crises like famine, whereas a lot of people don’t have things like homophobia and bullying spring to mind very often,the point in raising awareness is to prompt action, there aren’t very many charities for this kind of thing, but raising awareness to the kind of effect bullying can have on people will definitely aid in putting a stop to it.
